  • 2015 Battle of the Bands

Well I cannot believe we are almost half way through the year already. The Battle of the Bands has started in fine form with an excellent array of acts so far. We've had one or two hiccups with bands pulling out, but that's the nature of the business.

We have had some brilliant cover songs. This year's band has been Status Quo. I thought at the time there would be plenty of choice but many of the acts seem to be going for the same song, namely Matchstick Men. So it's slightly backfired on me!! Never mind, there'salways next year!

Our final line-up is looking pretty aweome again this year. It never fails to amaze me the calibre of local talent we have on the South Coast. So I will keep you posted on the outcome of the last two heats and post links to the new cover songs that the bands will have a choice of. Some pretty classic stuff, even if I say so myself.

    Till the next time.

    Cheers

  • Hello to 2015

    Happy New Year everyone.

I hope your festive season was full of cheer. Onwards to a new year and hopefully it will be a good one.

Here at Jurassic Mark Promotions we are looking forward to having a bumper year. We have had some new bands play for us already so things are looking positive. Our big news is we have Dave McPherson of Inme playing an acoustic set for us at the end of May at The Cellars in Eastney. This will be a wholly acoustic night and if you fancy a ticket, they will be up on line hopefully in the near future. Dave will be supported by some of Portsmouth's best singer/songwriters.

We have also announced the dates for the 2015 Battle of the Bands. This is becoming the one to enter. The calibre of acts we had last year was superb and the quality of our prizes, I think, is probably the best around. But that's just my opinion. So if you fancy your chances, keep your eyes peeled for the information posts going up on our Facebook page.

That's about it for now. I do hope everyone is well. I can't wait for some dry weather to materialise. I'm getting fed up with all this wind and rain!!

    Cheers

  • Battle of the Bands Final 2014

It has been a very long time since I posted anything in this blog. The Battle of the Bands has been fought and was won by Portsmouth based band, Tracerban. Keeping the prizes in Portsmouth, Lawless Nation were runners up and for a second year, Blindmans Vision came third.

It was an epic battle and there was very little separating the bands after the final count both on judges and audience votes. There was a capacity crowd at the Talking Heads and, I think, the night was enjoyed by one and all.

I must thank my judges for their hard work and also my sponsors for helping me out with the prizes.

    Until next year!!!

  • 2014 Battle of the Bands

Well folks, the JM Battle of the Bands is well underway. Winners of Heat 1 were Blindmans Vision and Heat 2, Lawless Nation. So well done to them.

The cover songs which we set the bands have provided some great entertainment and have all been executed brilliantly.

We still have four great heats to go, the next one being on the 8th May at The Talking Heads in Southampton. And don't forget, the final is on the 6th September also at The Talking Heads. Love your music? Then we'd love to see you there.

    Cheers

  • Happy New Year

It's been a while since I put anything up here. It's been so busy especially the run up to Christmas. Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely time and that 2014 brings you everything you hope for.

We had a fantastic gig on Christmas eve, co-hosted with Voice FM. All the acts played for free and there was no entry fee. All we asked was that everyone brought a wrapped gift for a child. The response was overwhelming. All the gifts were taken to Southampton General Hospital on Christmas morning and distributed amongst the children's wards by Father Christmas. It was wonderful to see the children's faces when they saw the man in the red suit appear. Well worth the very early start!!

New Year has started quietly but I am hard at work getting this year's Battle of the Band organised. It will be along the same lines as last year's and hopefully I've managed to get it right. Posts will go up on Facebook nearer the time to announce dates etc.

So, until the next time, be safe.

    Cheers
